WELCOME TO Morgan Hill Dentistry !
A dental implant consists of a titanium “root” implanted into the jawbone, and a metal abutment and porcelain crown are attached to the implant.
During the surgery, the oral surgeon gives you anesthesia and the tissue in the mouth is opened and a small titanium post is inserted into the bone socket of a missing tooth, and as the jaw heals from surgery, the bone fuses to the implants providing a stable permanent root that can support the false replacement tooth.
After the completion of this process, you can return home. You are instructed to return to the office a week or two later after your gums heal. The dentist then takes molds of your teeth and they are sent to a laboratory that manufactures pontics or false teeth, using these impressions.
After your implants heal fully, which may be after three to six months, you return to the office and your dentist applies your prosthetic teeth to their abutments.
Though the whole process of getting dental implants can take anywhere between six months and a year, the replacement teeth last a lifetime as long as you brush and floss twice every day and visit Morgan Hill Dentistry for a regular check-up.

Most adults with good oral health who are missing one or multiple teeth are ideal candidates for Dental Implants. However, it is quite important that the jaws and gums are both healthy and disease-free as dental implants are surgically fused to the jawbone.
Patients who have suffered bone loss due to a tooth abscess, or suffer from oral health problems such as gingivitis may not be an ideal candidates for the procedure.
Those who smoke, chew tobacco, or are living with a chronic disorder such as diabetes or heart disease, may also not qualify. The best way to discern whether you’re a good candidate for dental implants is to schedule an appointment with the team at Morgan Hill Dentistry.
